The Eileen Harris Pennick Scholarship was established in 2008 by the Pennick family in honor of the life of Virgin Islands born educator and activist Eileen Harris Pennick.
The scholarship provides funds to a rising college freshman who has made a commitment to social change through demonstrated community activism.
On May 17, 2008, the first scholarship was given to Yannick John, a then senior at the St. Croix Educational Complex, who studied environmental science in New York. Other past recipients of the award have been Alexandria Celestine (Atlanta, Georgia) and Jessica Hood (Atlanta, Georgia).
APPLY ONLINE - The Application process usually opens in November. Applicants must be a rising college freshman, who have been accepted to an accredited college at the time of submitting their application. To access the online application, CLICK HERE
SUBMIT APPLICATION AND SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION - Once you submit your application online, please remember to email all supporting documents in order to finalize your application. Documents that must be emailed are 1) Your Letter of Recommendation from a non-related teacher, counselor, or professional that has known you for a minimum of 2 years; AND 2 A copy of letter of admission from an accredited college or university. Supporting documentation should be sent to EHPscholarship@dscalllc.net.
SELECTION PROCESS - The scholarship committee, which includes Pennick family members, educators, and community activists will review ALL completed applications in March.
FINAL SELECTION - The selection of the scholarship recipient usually takes place in April.
